Artwork Resolution Requirements for Packaging

Prepare logos, photos, type, barcodes, and linked files so artwork survives prepress and prints cleanly at final size.

Custom packaging decisions become easier when the project is defined in practical terms. Use this guide to prepare stronger specifications, avoid preventable delays, and have a more productive conversation with your packaging partner.

Build at final size

Prepare artwork on the approved dieline at 100 percent scale. Raster images should normally be about 300 pixels per inch at the final placed size. Enlarging a small image reduces effective resolution even when the original file properties still show a high number.

Keep logos and type vector

AI, EPS, or vector PDF artwork is preferred for logos, line art, and small type because it scales cleanly. Outline fonts when requested, keep a live editable copy, and verify that outlined text has not shifted or lost special characters.

Use bleed and safe areas

Extend backgrounds and images through the specified bleed, and keep critical copy, barcodes, and logos inside the safe zone. Artwork placed too close to a cut or crease can appear uneven after normal converting variation.

Package linked assets

Include linked images, fonts when permitted, color references, and the exact approved dieline. Remove hidden alternatives and obsolete layers that could confuse prepress. Name files with the SKU and revision so the production record is unambiguous.

Inspect barcodes and fine detail

Barcodes, QR codes, fine rules, reverses, small type, and gradients need special attention. Do not assume a code that scans on screen will scan after printing, coating, distortion, and final assembly. Verification requirements should be agreed before production.
